My BackgroundI grew up living all over the East Coast. Having spent my childhood in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Florida, and Massachusetts, I became intrigued with historical places and thoroughly enjoy teaching American History. Once you have seen the Freedom Trail in Boston, the Statue of Liberty in New York, Valley Forge and the Liberty Bell in Pennsylvania, you definitely begin to develop a deeper appreciation for how this country was formed. I attribute all of our family summer road trips for giving me the travel bug. I have visited almost all of the 50 states. Of course, I quickly realized it was time to explore the rest of the world. What a blessing it has been to explore Thailand, Korea, Japan, Philippines, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic in my spare time!
Learning about new cultures brings me great joy. I look forward to sharing my love for learning with my students. I am also an avid reader and devour books quickly. I hope to share my love for reading with every student who passes through my room! |
My EducationAfter moving all over the East Coast, I ended up in Texas for high school. I graduated from Westwood High School back when the school was relatively new! I then attended Southwest Texas State University and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. After subbing in RRISD, I moved to Japan to teach students English. It was an amazing opportunity to experience a new culture. Next, I returned to Texas and taught fifth grade for seven years at a private school in Austin. After working with students for ten years, I received my graduate degree in Elementary Education. As soon as I received that degree, I left private school and started teaching in RRISD in 2003 at Wells Branch Elementary. I came to Great Oaks Elementary in 2007. I feel incredibly blessed to be here.
